Please be safe when using your mobility scooter, Elite Scooters supports safe driving of all vehicles!
What is the scooter's top speed?
Speed is dependent on make, model and battery condition. 10 kph is a safe top speed when there are no pedestrians. Do you need a driver's licence to drive a scooter? Scooters are not considered motor vehicles and therefore you do not need a licence to operate. Where should I drive my scooter? You should drive on the pavement where possible. If there is no safe way of getting on the pavement, drive alongside footpath as close as possible. Scooters are not permitted on a motorway. Be Visible. Is it alright to drive my scooter into a shopping centre? Shopping centres allow scooters entry. The Caddy models are specifically designed for driving around crowded areas, such as shopping centres. Can I drive through the rain on my scooter? Scooters are equipped with advanced components, which are water resistant. Nonetheless, it is recommended you avoid driving through large puddles or leaving the scooter in the rain for a long period of time. What is the average life-span of a scooter? How often do I need to replace it? On average, our customers use their scooters for 5 years before they replace it with a newer model. How do I maintain my scooter? In order to keep your scooter working properly and safely, you should always fully charge the battery, check tyre pressure regularly. Have your scooter serviced annually as a minimum. If you are a daily user, recommend a service every 6 months. Also, insist on original Afiscooter parts for your scooter. My scooter's range isn't very long, what do I do? Generally speaking good batteries fully charged will allow 50 km on an even surface with a driver / load of 80kg. Electric scooters use more battery power on hills, travelling rough terrain like grass, muddy fields, and metaled surfaces. The heavier the load the shorter the distance. Get your batteries load tested. Why does my year-and-a-half-old scooter does not go very far? The scooter works on batteries. Despite the daily charging of the scooter hot and cold conditions have an effect on batteries. Quality gel batteries are recommended as they are more tolerant to temperature change and designed for use in mobility scooters. My scooter has been standing for 6 months, my electrician says I need new batteries. Batteries that have not been charged for a significant period of time will lose their ability to charge again. Batteries need to be regularly charged even when not in use. Do I need to do any maintenance on the Drive Unit? Afiscooters drive units are manufactured for longevity. The consumable parts can be replaced by a qualified service technician. Other makes and models may have a sealed drive unit that cannot be serviced. Should I buy a used scooter? If so, who from? Buying a used scooter can be a tricky business. To minimize risk, we suggest you see a Scooter dealer and insist on the following: That the scooter is in proper working order and has undergone a safety check; check the length of guarantee; check there are spare parts and technical support available for this model. Anti-tip
Mounted in the back of the scooter, this mechanism stops the scooter from tipping over backward. Some scooters models require anti - tip wheels to meet safety standards. Breeze scooters pass all international safety standards without the addition of anti -tip wheels. Shock Absorbers Installed in the Breeze is an advanced shock absorption system, as used in motorcycles. The system uses both spring and hydraulic absorbers for keeping your ride safe and smooth. Automatic Brake An electro magnetic brake installed on the motor stops the vehicle automatically when the driver releases the throttle. Battery Gauge Displays the status of your batteries at any given time. Power Unit Afi scooters use leading edge trans-axle technology with fewer moving parts. This ensures quiet, reliable safe operation. Some other makes and models use a lightweight noisy drive unit. Advanced Steering System Afiscooters have an advanced steering system similar to those used in the auto industry. Thus the vehicle is more stable, comfortable, easy to steer less tiring on your arms shoulders and back. Turn Radius The smaller the radius is, the easier it is for the scooter to maneuver tight corners. The turning radius of a scooter is the radius of the smallest circular turn (i.e. U-turn) that the scooter is capable of making. It is commonly used to mean the full diameter of the smallest circle. Not all manufactures us this as format. Some manufacturers quote a measurement that is 50% of the turning circle. Chassis A metal frame that contributes to the scooter's stability and safety. AfiScooters manufacture to the highest standards. The quality of the steel chassis varies considerably in other makes and models. Ergonomic Design AfiScooters have an ergonomic design, easily adapted to driver's physical condition and abilities. This is to ensure the driver can use the scooter easily and safely. EMI Like any other electrical vehicle, the scooters electrical circuits create a minor, harmless radiation. For precise information, please see the user manual for your scooter.
When purchasing a second hand scooter careful consideration and advanced planning can prevent a costly mistake. The older and cheaper the scooter the higher the probability of buying a lemon. The ongoing cost of ownership can outweigh the cheap purchase price. Tyres and batteries are costly replacement items that can wear out prematurely if the scooter is not able to be adjusted or repaired. Whilst the opportunity exists to buy cheaply there is little or no recourse with many second hand purchases as cost of repairs is more than the scooter is worth.
